Iceland

“Where did you put it?”

Dosan was frantic, as he turned the room over looking for the stash.

“Back in the hollow, same as always”

“Well it’s not here now”

A glass went crashing to the floor, Piper eyed the fragments as they pirouetted in slow motion through the air.

She made a mental map of where not to stand when Dosan’s temper had burnt itself out.

Dosan punched a hole in the plaster that kinda looked like Iceland, she opened the atlas that she had been using as a table top to rest her coffee and a half full ashtray.

“Yup Iceland” she chuckled quietly

“What the Fuck!” he snapped.

“I was just…you know what, never mind”

“You could get off your arse and help me find it, especially as you…”

His phone interrupted his rant, the acidic build up of the music he had set as his ringtone had Piper bouncing up and down on the bed rhythmically.

“Let it ring, I love this track.”

“Dosan pulled the phone out of his pocket and answered the call, cutting the music off at the drop.”

“Bastard!” muttered a still bouncing Piper.

“Yes” Dosan barked into the phone angrily.

Piper, unable to hear the conversation on the other end of the phone followed the one sided conversation

“Uh huh…uh huh…what!…crazy talk…how did it get there…I never brought it out…I didn’t…seriously…what!…No way!…NO FUCKING WAY!!…you’re fucking shitting with me……OK then laters”

Dosan terminated the call, the garbled sounds of the person on the other end silenced instantly, he tossed the phone on the bed, it slid towards the edge threatening to fall off but gripped a hold of the sheet at the critical moment and clung on, balancing on the edge, like the bus at the end of the Italian Job.

“Soo” Piper drew out the word

“Kenny has the stash, seems like you left the portal jet initiated, and it created a portal and jumped back to its last programmed coordinates”

“Fuck you Dosan, it's not me, it's you - you’re the one who comes in after getting high on small portal jumps, sometimes you don’t even know what planet you’re on, never mind what what year, or time it is - you know, no good comes from messing with time.”

Dosan chuckled

“Yeah yeah, I know - you’ve been here at this moment in time before, so guess you know what is coming next then…”

Piper bounced and the finely balanced phone slid off the edge of the sheet, Dosan stumbled forward, but a second to late and missed the catch. The phone hit the floor with a thud.

“Oh dear, couldn’t stay long enough to see that happening…shame!”

“Sake” whined Dosan, as he groped on the floor for his phone, he turned it over and over and held his thumb over the unlock sensor in the screen, it blinked into life.

“you’re lucky it’s not damaged.”

“and you’re lucky you’re not lost in a medieval time where you are the sacrifice in some fucked up religious mating ritual.”
